Well we did get a blue bird morning, clear skies and 25 degrees. But with this came all of the Valentine and tourists to the mountains. First over 100 couples came to the Loveland Ski resort to get married. It is a ceremony performed at the top of the resort at 12,000 feet. At the Keystone Resort, they changed the times for bus service from starting at 8am to 6am. This was done because of the expected crowds this Valentine/President’s weekend. We went skiing but ended our day around 10am because of the craziest of the skiers and snow boarders. As we were leaving the resort, they had already closed the on-site parking lot and were directing the cars to a lot about 3 miles away. It will be a crazy weekend. All of the local restaurants were crowded for Happy Hour so we had our Happy Hour on our patio.

The day started with overcast conditions with mild temps. The sun didn’t come out all day and there were occasional snow flurries and some rain drops. It was another big snow melt day. There were ponds of melted snow everywhere. After Mass this morning we walked by the lake and saw many families out in the snow with one family making a castle out of snow blocks. It was a very lazy afternoon. As we got ready to go out to the Sauce Restaurant for happy hour around 5pm, it started to snow and we quickly changed our plans and stayed in. The forecast called for snow starting late afternoon and continuing into tomorrow morning. As we looked out our back window, we saw a continuous line of cars coming from Keystone and trying to get East bound on I70.The sign indicated that it was at least a 2 hour trip. I am glad that we don’t need to make this trip.

Wednesday 03/04

Another Blue Bird morning. I haven’t had to clean off my car in days. And with no snow in the forecast until Sunday, there will be a lot of melting and refreezing in the morning. There are many signs of the melting snow and ice especially the Ice Castles. They will be closing this weekend because of the weather. We went to Copper Mtn in the afternoon and walked the village and when to JJ’s and saw the Lefty Lucie show which includes dancing on the bar and of course the shot ski. As we were returning to the car thru the village we saw a remarkable sight. It was a railing that had about a foot of snow just hanging from it. Just reminds you to always be careful. It was another funday.

Monday Jan 13

Monday turned out to be a cloudy and snowy day. Morning temps were around 15 degrees and ended in the mid-20s. In the morning we continued to put things away in the condo and picked up our skis. We also went to Walmart to pick up additional items for the condo. In our parking lot, a video team was taking pictures and video of snowboarders flying down a ramp and down the rails of the stairway. It was fun watching them. In the late afternoon, we got ready to go to the Dam Brewery to meet some of our friends from last year. They were all there. After a lot of talk and a few beers, we returned home to watch the Clemson-LSU football game. It was an exciting game and LSU proved to be the better team. Hopefully tomorrow will be our first day skiing.
