Today is the start of a long weekend. With the great snow and now mild temps, the slopes will be CROWDED. Early this morning you could see long lines of cars coming off I70 and heading to Keystone. The parking lots filled up by 9:30am and they were being told to use mass transit namely the Summit Stage. The Summit Stage hasn’t been able to fill all of the driver positions and they had to cut service. So I am not sure that will be an alternative this weekend. The temp reached into the mid 40s this afternoon which caused a lot of melting. I think this is the start of the Spring Thaw. We tries to go to the Dam for cocktails. But after spending about 15 minutes looking for a parking space, we decided to go home. We had beer and wine with chips for our cocktails. on our patio  I think it will be a long weekend.

The day started with overcast conditions with mild temps. The sun didn’t come out all day and there were occasional snow flurries and some rain drops. It was another big snow melt day. There were ponds of melted snow everywhere. After Mass this morning we walked by the lake and saw many families out in the snow with one family making a castle out of snow blocks. It was a very lazy afternoon. As we got ready to go out to the Sauce Restaurant for happy hour around 5pm, it started to snow and we quickly changed our plans and stayed in. The forecast called for snow starting late afternoon and continuing into tomorrow morning. As we looked out our back window, we saw a continuous line of cars coming from Keystone and trying to get East bound on I70.The sign indicated that it was at least a 2 hour trip. I am glad that we don’t need to make this trip.

Wednesday 03/04

Another Blue Bird morning. I haven’t had to clean off my car in days. And with no snow in the forecast until Sunday, there will be a lot of melting and refreezing in the morning. There are many signs of the melting snow and ice especially the Ice Castles. They will be closing this weekend because of the weather. We went to Copper Mtn in the afternoon and walked the village and when to JJ’s and saw the Lefty Lucie show which includes dancing on the bar and of course the shot ski. As we were returning to the car thru the village we saw a remarkable sight. It was a railing that had about a foot of snow just hanging from it. Just reminds you to always be careful. It was another funday.

Monday Jan 13

Monday turned out to be a cloudy and snowy day. Morning temps were around 15 degrees and ended in the mid-20s. In the morning we continued to put things away in the condo and picked up our skis. We also went to Walmart to pick up additional items for the condo. In our parking lot, a video team was taking pictures and video of snowboarders flying down a ramp and down the rails of the stairway. It was fun watching them. In the late afternoon, we got ready to go to the Dam Brewery to meet some of our friends from last year. They were all there. After a lot of talk and a few beers, we returned home to watch the Clemson-LSU football game. It was an exciting game and LSU proved to be the better team. Hopefully tomorrow will be our first day skiing.
